Managing Anxiety with Hypnotherapy
Feeling constantly on edge, stuck in your thoughts, or unable to switch off?
If you are dealing with anxiety, it can feel exhausting. You may recognise some of the following:
- You’re mind won’t stop racing
- You overthink everything
- You feel tense, restless, or on edge
- Even small things can feel overwhelming
- You struggle to relax or get a proper night’s sleep
You might feel like you’ve tried everything… and nothing has really worked.
The good news is this does not have to be permanent.
Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in Cirencester, Stroud & Online
I offer hypnotherapy for anxiety from my practices in Cirencester and Stroud, as well as online sessions across the UK and the world.
So whether you prefer to:
- attend sessions in person locally, or
- work together from the comfort of your home
you can get the support that works best for you.
How I Can Help You
I specialise in helping people reduce anxiety and regain a sense of calm and control using solution focused hypnotherapy.
Rather than just talking about the problem, we work with the part of your mind where anxiety patterns actually come from – so change can feel more natural and long lasting.
Clients often begin to notice:
- A quieter mind
- Less overthinking
- Feeling calmer and more decisive in everyday situations
- Better sleep
- More confidence handling life in general

What is Happening When You Feel Anxious?
Anxiety isn’t a flaw or weakness – it’s your brain trying to protect you.
Sometimes though, that “alarm system” becomes overactive.
This can lead to:
- constant worry (often called Generalised anxiety disorder or GAD)
- physical symptoms (tension, racing heart, stomach issues)
- difficulty switching off or relaxing
We don’t focus on labelling you – we focus on helping your mind learn a calmer way to respond.
What Happens in a Session?
One of the biggest worries people have is: “What will actually happen?”
Here’s what to expect, whether it’s in Cirencester, Stroud or online:
1. The “talking” part
We’ll gently explore:
- what’s been happening for you
- what you would like to change
You’ll also come to understand how your brain works in a simple, reassuring way, tailored to your situation.
2. Hypnotherapy
You’ll be guided into a calm, relaxed state (similar to daydreaming)
In this state:
- your mind becomes more receptive to helpful change
- you experience deep relaxation
- anxiety patterns begin to shift
You are in control throughout this process. Each session lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
How Many Sessions Will I need?
This varies, but many people notice positive changes within a few sessions. Most clients coming to see me for anxiety have between 8 to 12 sessions. Some may have more than this so changes can become more established.
Everyone works at their own pace – no pressure.
Lasting Change is Possible
If you have been struggling with anxiety for a while it can feel like it’s “just the way you are”. It isn’t.
With the right approach, your mind can learn to feel calmer, clearer, and more in control again.

Anxiety and Hypnotherapy FAQs
Do I have to talk about my past or previous traumas?
No. Often one of the biggest reliefs for my clients is that we do not need to 'dig up' the past or dwell on old traumas to get results. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on your 'preferred future'— and the steps you can readily take to move towards it. The process focuses on how you want to feel and be. This gives the brain a picture to work towards, rather than one we want to run away from. When we work like this, the brain's innate processing systems work optimally. These resolve past adverse experiences and traumas without the need to consciously over analyse them. It also enables the mind to let go of the anxiety. We move into a calmer, more agile, more rational state of mind.
Will I lose control or be made to do anything against my will?
This is a common myth often based on stage hypnosis. The method of hypnosis used in the clinical environment varies significantly from that used for entertainment. In a clinical setting, you are always in control. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused attention, much like being 'in the zone' while running or getting lost in a good book. You can open your eyes, speak, or even end the session at any time. We use hypnosis to induce a state of deep relaxation (which is therapeutically beneficial in its own right). My role is simply to help guide you into that natural and enjoyable state of trance where your mind and body can heal, become more open to beneficial suggestions and learn news ways of thinking and behaving.
How is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy different from CBT or Counselling?
CBT is often about meeting the problem head on. SFH is about increasing confidence, reducing anxiety, building greater resilience through focusing on strengths and what's going well. This means that the next time you hit a more challenging situation you feel empowered to deal with it to the best of your ability. By using 'trance' (a natural relaxation state), we bypass the 'critical' part of the brain that often keeps us stuck in a loop of worry. This allows the positive changes we discuss in the 'talking' part of the session to bed in much more deeply and quickly.
Can I have sessions online, and are they as effective as in-person?
Yes, I offer sessions both at my clinics in Stroud and Cirencester in Gloucestershire and online via Zoom. Online hypnotherapy is just as effective as in-person sessions—and for many people with anxiety, being in the comfort of your own home actually makes it easier to relax. As long as you have a quiet space where you won't be disturbed and a stable internet connection, you will likely receive the same therapeutic benefits.
What should you do before trying hypnotherapy for anxiety?
It is always important to contact you GP about your anxiety before you see a hypnotherapist. This is so that the GP can rule our any underlying medical conditions which maybe causing the anxiety.
