How I Can Help You Sleep Better

Most sleep problems aren’t just about sleep – they’re about how your mind is working.

When you are struggling with poor sleep, your brain often stays in a more alert, anxious state, even though you’re tired.

That’s why you might:

  • overthink at night
  • feel tense or restless
  • struggle to switch off

Hypnotherapy helps by:

  • calming the mind and body
  • reducing overthinking
  • helping you relax more naturally
  • changing patterns and habits that keep you awake

Clients Often Notice:

  • falling asleep more easily
  • waking up less during the night
  • feeling calmer at bedtime
  • waking up more refreshed

Understanding Sleep Problems

The NHS defines insomnia as difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep long enough to feel refreshed the next day.

Sleep problems can show up in different ways, including:

  • difficulty falling asleep
  • waking frequently
  • waking too early
  • feeling unrefreshed even after you feel you’ve slept deeply

Sleep plays an important role in both physical and mental health.

While many people understand its importance for physical recovery, sleep is also essential for helping the mind process stress, emotions, and daily experiences. As a result, when sleep is disrupted, it can impact how we feel and our ability to cope.

Sleep problems are very common, and often linked to:

  • stress
  • anxiety
  • ongoing pressures

Even when you are doing everything “right” sleep can continue to be difficult.

Medication may help in the short term, but it usually isn’t an effective long term solution.  This explains why people look for a more natural approach such as hypnotherapy.

What Happens in a Session?

Many people wonder what to expect from a solution focused hypnotherapy session.

Here’s what to expect:

1. The “talking” part:

We’ll explore:

  • what’s happening with you
  • what needs to change to help you feel better

2. Hypnotherapy

You’ll be guided into a relaxed state (similar to daydreaming)

In this state:

  • your mind becomes clearer
  • your body relaxes
  • helpful changes can start to happen

Remember: You are always in control during hypnosis.  Most people will want to have 8-12 sessions, but everyone works at there own pace.

Is This Right For You?

This may help if you:

  • struggle to switch off at night
  • feel anxious about sleep
  • lie awake overthinking
  • wake in the night and can’t settle
  • want a more natural way to improve your sleep

What Clients Say:

“After years of insomnia which affected my weight and stress levels I decided to try hypnotherapy.  Alex helped me to learn to deal with the stresses of everyday life, to become calmer and more in control of my life… Life is so much happier now.” – Helen

Sleep & Hypnotherapy – Your Questions Answered

This is one of the most common reasons people struggle with sleep.

Hypnotherapy helps improve our cognitive control (that ability to focus on what we want to focus on at any particular time), which helps us gain control of our thoughts.  Essentially hypnotherapy helps by:

  • calming racing thoughts
  • reducing overthinking
  • helping your mind settle

Over time, this can make it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

No - you won't be asleep.

Hypnotherapy feels more like:

  • deep relaxation
  • a calm, focused state
  • similar to daydreaming

You will remain aware of what's going on and in control throughout

This varies, everyone works at their own pace.  Some people will notice improvements quite quickly, whilst most will want to have between 8 and 12 sessions to properly embed the new patterns.

Many people who come for hypnotherapy feel the same.

Sleep can be particularly frustrating because:

  • it's not something you can force
  • often the harder you try the worse it gets

Hypnotherapy works differently by encouraging you to re-learn the feeling of relaxation, rather than forcing sleep to happen.

A willingness to make some changes (even if you do not know what those changes might need to be yet) is important.  It may be that changes to sleep habits are required, it may be that changes are needed elsewhere to change our thought processes which then lead to better sleep.

We look at things that support better sleep from quite a broad perspective.
